How to Make the Most of Your Day in Cozumel
Cozumel is a non-commercialized haven of authentic vacation delights. From its stunning reefs to its charming Latin Caribbean culture, you can’t go wrong with whatever you decide to see and do! Looking for some things to do during your day in Cozumel? Well, look no further! Here are some of the best Cozumel activities. Grab your sunblock and camera, because a day in Cozumel is a day to remember.
Start with a Coffee Run
Coffee is part of Cozumel’s culture, as it is for much of Mexico and the rest of Latin America. Start your Cozumel day off right with a cup of good coffee. One of the most popular coffee shops is El Coffee Cozumel, a delightful Latin bakery that sells awesome cinnamon rolls. You won’t be able to resist getting a to-go bag of pastries here when you stop for your morning coffee! Of course, there are plenty of other great coffee shops in the area. Pick one that smells great, and you really can’t go wrong!
The top Cozumel activities generally revolve around Cozumel beaches, and the most popular excursion in town is no exception. Most visitors to Cozumel come for the snorkeling or diving. Mexico is known for its incredible reefs, and Cozumel has some of the best. If you’re only in Cozumel for the day, you might not have time for Scuba diving, so you’ll probably have to settle for snorkeling if you want to make the most of your day and see all the other cool sights. There are many ways you can go about this. To save money, you can rent equipment, grab a map, and go on your own. Actually, you may consider packing your own snorkel gear to save money. During summer, many superstores sell snorkel gear for as low as fifteen or twenty bucks. However, if you want the complete experience, it’s best to join a snorkel tour or hire a guide.
There are several good snorkeling sites off the coast of Cozumel. Playa Las Casitas is a great location close to town, so this Cozumel activity is about as easy as it gets. There are a couple sunken boats here. North of town, you can snorkel the North Shore Areas, where you can find plenty of interesting objects and some nice reef.
Take a Trip to the Mayan Ruins
After you spend the morning snorkeling, grab a quick lunch and then head to the Mayan ruins. This is one of the coolest Cozumel activities you’ll find! These ruins were built 2000 years ago, at the zenith of the Mayan era. There are a few different ruins you can choose from. The most famous is Chichen Itza, where you can see a pyramid. Tulum, an ancient fortress, is also pretty cool to see. However, these ruins are located on the mainland, so if you’re trying to conserve time, it might be better to see San Gervasio, ruins that are located on Cozumel Island.
Chill at the Beach
While you’re running around exploring all the interesting corners of Cozumel, don’t forget to enjoy Cozumel beaches as well as Cozumel activities. If you’re only there for the day, you may only get to visit one or two Cozumel beaches, so make your selections count! Chankanaab Lagoon Beach is a good choice, especially since you can do your snorkeling excursion here are well. Playa San Francisco is also very popular with tourists, who enjoy the gold sand and many water activities.
